Capital Projects Manager, Planning and Economic Development
University City District is a non‐profit, special services district that leverages a unique partnership of universities, health systems, large and small businesses and community groups, dedicated to fostering a vibrant, world‐class community in University City.
University City District’s Planning and Economic Development department promotes vibrant and walkable development in University City with infrastructure improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists, business attraction and retention, market research and data, and general urban planning and sustainability work.
Position Description
University City District seeks a creative, detail‐oriented, and highly‐motivated individual to assist the Director of Planning and Economic Development with the planning and implementation of capital projects relating to streetscape, public space, and bicycle improvements in University City.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Participate in the planning, development, and initiation of new public space improvement projects;
• Conduct inventory and analysis of existing conditions of streetscape amenities;
• Write and issue Requests for Proposals for professional services;
• Manage professional services contracts for design, construction management, and construction administration;
• Coordinate all design and technical aspects of projects, including conceptual design, community engagement, agency review and approval, and construction completion;
• Represent University City District in dealings with governmental and regulatory agencies, funders, community and stakeholder groups, and the general public;
• Prepare and manage budgets and timelines for projects and ongoing programs;
• Identify maintenance needs and develop work plans to address these needs; and
• Create maps, briefings, illustrations and photo renderings to support general planning and urban design efforts.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of meaningful experience in the fields of urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, or a closely related field; a master’s degree in one of these fields is strongly preferred;
• Strong project management experience with duties including project implementation from conception to completion;
• Excellent skills in verbal and written communication;
• Proficiency in Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS;
• Strong design sensibilities; and
• Strong knowledge of and passion for cities and urban development.
