PACDC Members Celebrate “Wins,” Look forward at Annual Meeting
Celebration of three “wins” and challenges for our industry to improve were highlights at PACDC’s Annual Membership meeting December 12th at PECO attended by more than 70 members.
PACDC Executive Director Rick Sauer announced three reasons to celebrate:
· Passage by the PA Senate of the expansion of the Philadelphia Housing Trust Fund bill (now on the Governor’s desk for signature);
· Expansion of the CDC Tax Credit Partnership Program to 35 slots with 100% credit for $85,000 per year; and,
· City Council approval (on December 15th) of the City’s new zoning code.
PACDC Board Vice President Gina Snyder (East Falls Development Corporation) and members Jon Musselman (Habitat for Humanity) and Melissa Kim (Korean Community Development Services Center/ North Fifth Street) reported respectively on PACDC’s Commercial Corridor Revitalization, Vacant Property, and Member Services Committee work.
Board members and officers up for election were re-affirmed, with a special election scheduled for June, 2012 that will coincide with the establishment of PACDC’s new Advisory Board. PACDC’s Nominations Committee will be vetting potential nominees to the organization’s Board over the next few months, and is inviting nominations from the membership to ensure that our Board is representative of the industry.
PACDC’s guest speaker, Rick Cohen, who writes for the Non-Profit Quarterly, warned of the disproportionate decline of support for the CDC industry compared to other causes such as education and arts and culture, and challenged CDCs to go to government and foundations with solutions, and to “assert your value.”
PECO’s Maureen Sharkey welcomed PACDC and Val Bullock offered assistance to CDCs to advance energy efficiency in multi-family buildings.
