Legislative Reapportionment Commission Adopts Final Redrawn State Legislative District Boundaries; Draft of Redrawn Congressional Boundaries Introduced in Legislature
The Pennsylvania Legislative Reapportionment Commission has adopted the final plan for redrawing boundaries for the State’s Representative and Senatorial Districts. Philadelphia lost the 169th District currently represented by Dennis O’Brien who was recently elected to Philadelphia City Council as an At-Large Member. This reduces the number of Representatives from Philadelphia to 27.

New Congressional District Boundaries have also been introduced to the Legislature and passed by the State Senate (S.B. 1249). Unlike the Legislative Reapportionment Commission required for State Legislative District Boundaries, Congressional District Reapportionment is approved through the normal legislative process. The State House is expected to take up and pass an identical measure next week.

Changes made to State Legislative and Congressional District Boundaries may still be challenged in State and Federal Court. The new boundaries will be final when all legal challenges are cleared.
